2011-2012 Residents Announced
|
 On June 27th, 21 newly selected Residents gathered together for the first time to begin their Summer Institute. Over the course of this four day event, the Residents met their Clinical Instructors, learned about the UTRU teacher residency model, and began to understand the ins-and-outs of life as a TEACH/Here Resident. Christine Brennan of Urban Teacher Residency United (UTRU) was the featured presenter while representatives from all TEACH/Here partner organizations were also on hand to lead information sessions and answer questions. Summer Institute participants also heard special remarks from both Dan Challener, president of PEF, and Rick Smith, the new Hamilton County Superintendent.
In July, Residents began their Master's coursework. Armed with the knowledge gained in these classes, Residents joined their Clinical Instructors in their new school buildings late in the month, beginning the process of preparing for the school year. As school begins this month, the following new Residents will begin their classroom apprenticeships:

Induction Coordinator Joins TEACH/Here Team
|
 Mark Neal has joined TEACH/Here as the program's new Induction Coordinator. Mark with provide coaching, supervision, and support for program graduates in their critical first years of teaching. He will also be designing and facilitating informative seminars for Clinical Instructors and working with TEACH/Here's university partners to align coursework with classroom apprenticeship experiences. Mark graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with a Bachelor's degree in ecology and environmental studies. After working for several years as a newspaper reporter, he returned to UTK to earn a Master's degree in Science Education in 2001. Mark moved to Chattanooga in 2008 after teaching for five years at North Windy Ridge School in Asheville, North Carolina. He comes to TEACH/Here form Normal Park Museum Magnet Upper School where he served as a 6th grade science teacher. Mark is a National Board Certified educator who brings a wealth of experience and energy to his new position.
