Clinical Instructors in TEACH/Here's 7th through 12th grade STEM program have something new to look forward to this year. As a result of their participation in TEACH/Here, these CIs are being offered the opportunity to participate in the University of Tennessee Knoxville's Urban Specialist Certificate Program.
The Urban Specialist Certificate Program (USCP) is designed to improve teaching and learning in urban school contexts by developing a cadre of urban teacher leaders. The program incorporates twelve hours (four courses) distributed over a two-year period. The first year focuses on teachers’ performance and school contexts. During the second year, emphasis includes developing strategies and tools to facilitate the induction of novice teachers. Collectively the four courses focus on understanding issues in urban schools and communities, improving teaching and learning in urban schools, accommodating diverse student needs in urban classrooms, and using action research to improve teaching and learning in urban contexts
We're thrilled that UTK, our partner organization, is providing such a great learning opportunity for our skilled Clinical Instructors. For more information on the program, visit http://www.outreach.utk.edu/urban/urban_specialist/default.htm.
