TEACH/Here Director Cheri Dedmon and I recently attended a three-day Instructional Rounds workshop in Denver with other members of Urban Teacher Residency United network. We were hosted by two different programs in the Denver Region— Denver Teacher Residency and Boettcher Teachers Program...

Next Monday is a busy day for TEACH/Here.  We have two info sessions in two cities!

The first Selection Day event for 2012-2013 will be held December 9 in Chattanooga!  If you would like to be considered for this early decision date, please submit your application by December 1.  For details, please contact Lindsey at LFrost@teachhere.org.   We look forward to reading your application! 

TEACH/Here hosts monthly information sessions on the second Monday of every month!   The next one will be held on Monday, November 14th at Greenlife Grocery.  Time TBD.  To RSVP or for more information, contact Lindsey at LFrost@teachhere.org.  See you there!

TEACH/Here residents had an interesting opportunity to become part of the national conversation on education reform when former D.C. schools chancellor Michelle Rhee visited Chattanooga yesterday.  Two residents were part of a special afternoon forum with Rhee at the Public Education Foundation, and several others attended the Waiting for Superman star's evening speech at the Tivoli Theater. 

Mark Neal is TEACH/Here's newly hired Induction Coach.  In addition to being a rock star classroom teacher and a talented coach for our graduates, Mark is also our resident expert on current trends and issues in education.  We look forward to posting Mark's reflections on the blog often.

Clinical Instructors in TEACH/Here's 7th through 12th grade STEM program have something new to look forward to this year.  As a result of their participation in TEACH/Here, these CIs are being offered the opportunity to participate in the University of Tennessee Knoxville's Urban Specialist Certificate Program...

On June 27th, a celebration was held at Lindsay Street Hall in Chattanooga to welcome the new Residents and to celebrate Cohort 1 graduates...

There are exciting new changes on the TEACH/here website!  We've updated pictures to feature current residents and graduates and have added the ability to post videos on the home page.   There's also a great new contact form that can be used to sign up for our e-mail list or RSVP for an info session.  What do you think about all of the changes?  We love the new look!

Big News!  Hamilton County was one of only three districts in the state to receive funding as part of the Tennessee Department of Education's Teacher and Principal Residency Competitive Grant Program.  Part of the First to the Top initiative, these funds will be used by the Hamilton County Department of Education in partnership with the Public Education Foundation and Tennessee Technological University to expand the TEACH/Here program to include fourth through eighth grade urban math classrooms throughout the district.  Apply now!

TEACH/Here is a part of  Urban Teacher Residency United, a national network of teacher residency programs.  There are currently 17 UTRU programs running in 11 different states!  We love learning from UTRU and from other UTRU programs around the country, so we're constantly checking out network blogs, Facebook feeds, and other online content.  These sites are great sources of information for anyone interested in teacher residencies or in education in general, so we're going to begin occasionally posting links and articles from our partners for you to enjoy.
