Teacher residencies are part of a national research-based movement that’s growing fast. The TEACH/Here residency program operates in Chattanooga and Knoxville school districts, in partnership with the University of Tennessee Knoxville and the Public Education Foundation in Chattanooga.
Soon, every student will come to school each day with the expectation that s/he will be thrilled, challenged, prodded, and deeply engaged in meaningful work - and confident that s/he will graduate from high school ready for success in college, in a career, and as a contributing citizen. Every student will be able to credit the teachers who guilder him or her along this path. Because, for high level learning to happen, good teaching is the key ingredient.
TEACH/Here offers two programs, one for applicants with a degree in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, and math) and one for interested candidates who do not possess a STEM degree but who do have extensive content knowledge in math.
Though not an application requirement, candidates are strongly encouraged to complete the appropriate Praxis II content exam before attending Selection Day. Scores should be submitted to TEACH/Here along with transcripts. Please contact us to determine which exam you should take.
Working alongside expert clinical instructors, TEACH/Here 7th-12th grade program residents teach in grades 7 through 12 in Hamilton County and Knox County urban schools. In addition to their work in classrooms, TEACH/Here 7th-12th residents complete rigorous coursework at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, earning a master’s degree as well as certification to teach at the secondary level. To further hone their skills, the residents also participate in thoughtfully designed TEACH/Here professional development seminars and workshops.
TEACH/Here 7th-12th residents commit to teaching in Hamilton County or Knox County public schools for at least four years after the residency year.
